CBR Infrastructure
Installations and Operations
CBR is currently hosted at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC) campus in Oeiras to capitalise on available resources and highly specialised infrastructure, such as advanced optical and electron microscopy, flow cytometry, genomics, and animal facility. IGC is a leading Life Sciences research centre in the Lisbon area that strongly supports scientific diversity and has a proven record in innovative training, outreach and fostering science in developing countries. The IGC has had a huge impact on the birth of other major Portuguese science institutes, through incubation at its facilities. Examples of this are the Champalimaud Foundation and CEDOC, a Biomedical Research Institute associated with the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and now it is the CBR's turn.
On September 3, 2021, Universidade Católica Portuguesa and Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the establishment of CBR on the IGC Campus. The Cooperation and Partnership Protocol, which defines the rights and obligations of the parties involved, was then signed on February 10, 2023. A total area of 592 m2 in the East building of the IGC Campus (commonly known as the Library building) has been made available for CBR. The improvement works for the space began in May 2023, and were completed in September 2023.
