Job Shadowing at CBR/Hospital da Luz - Easter vacation 2024 edition
During the Easter holidays of 2024, and under the banner of the Lit Up program, a CBR - Oeiras valley partnership, the CBR and the Learning Health Simulation Hospital at the Hospital da Luz once again welcomed high school students from the municipality of Oeiras for a Job Shadowing experience. This time, 26 students from secondary schools in the municipality of Oeiras were able to "shadow" researchers or healthcare professionals to find out what their day-to-day life is like.
In the Simulation School PreSci or SimSchool PreSci, CBR´s Job Shadowing course for Pre-scientists, CBR received 11 Oeiras high school students at its facilities (on the campus of the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência, at Rua da Quinta Grande 6, in Oeiras). Students hailed from 2 schools, ES Luís de Freitas Branco, in Paço d´Arcos, and ES Camilo Castelo Branco, in Carnaxide. The students, 8 of which were 10th graders, and three 12th graders, spent 3 days - March 25th to 27th - with researchers from 2 CBR laboratories: Sara Silva Pereira's parasite-vasculature interactions laboratory, and Luís Teixeira's host-microorganism interactions laboratory.
In Simulation School PreMed or SimSchool PreMed, the Job Shadowing course for Pre-doctors/nurses/health professionals at Hospital da Luz (Avenida Lusíada 100, in Lisbon), Hospital da Luz welcomed fifteen12th grade students hailing from 4 Oeiras municipality high schools: ES Sebastião e Silva (Oeiras), ES Luís de Freitas Branco (Paço d´Arcos), ES Camilo Castelo Branco (Carnaxide) and ES Quinta do Marquês (Oeiras).
