CBR has a simple horizontal organisation. Executive Director Pedro Simas is responsible for science strategy, recruitment, resources, and management. In addition to its executive Director, the CBR is governed by a Board of Directors, and advised by an independent external Scientific Advisory Board and the CBR Researchers Council.
Board of Directors
The CBR Board of Directors is composed of four Vice-Directors, Raquel Oliveira, Maria João Amorim, Luís Teixeira, and Cláudio Franco.

Each CBR Board Director oversees a particular area of action of institutional relevance, such as career development, undergraduate and postgraduate education, communication, infrastructure, etc. The CBR Board of Directors holds weekly meetings to delineate priorities in each area of action and decide on strategic developments.
Researchers Council
CBR advocates for a flat hierarchical structure, in the sense that all researchers have unique competencies in CBR and active voices in the implementation of its vision.
The CBR´s Researchers Council has a counselling or advisory role and is comprised of all PhD holders within the organisation. It is meant to maximise scientific freedom and engage researchers in decision-making, with the aim of creating a strong sense of ownership and community. Its meetings are held biannually.
