Job Shadowing
JOB SHADOWING is a programme that affords 10th and 11th grade students the opportunity to accompany a scientist or health professional for at least a day, in a research or clinical setting. This JOB SHADOWING initiative may take place in one of the CBR labs, at the Católica Medical School or, thanks to CBR´s participation in the Centro Académico Clínico Católica Luz (CAC – CL), at Hospital da Luz (in collaboration with Hospital da Luz Learning Health, in Lisbon).
The CBR JOB SHADOWING programme allows Oeiras high school students interested in research in science and technology or in the health fields a sneak-peek into what it means to be a researcher or a health professional in these areas, by giving students first-person access to such an environment.
JOB SHADOWING organized by the CBR offers 3 types of JOB SHADOWING experiences:
- the Scientist for a day or Health professional for a day programmes, in which a student is matched with a professional of the research or clinical area(s) the student is interested in, and the student comes to the CBR, the Católica Medical School or the Hospital da Luz and spends one day with the researcher or medical professional in his/her research or clinical environment;
- the Simulation School PreScience (SimSchool PreSci), for students interested in Science and Technology research with a focus in Biomedical research, and which takes place at the CBR and/or the Católica Medical School;
- the Simulation School PreMedical (SimSchool PreMed), aimed at students interested in health careers, and which takes place at the Hospital da Luz and is organized by the Hospital da Luz Learning Health department.
All 3 career simulation experiences allow the student to witness first-hand the day-to-day tasks and comings and goings of a lab researcher, a clinical research and/or a doctor, a nurse, a physiotherapist or a medical imaging technician. In addition to this close-up of what it means to have a given job, the student also has a privileged opportunity to ask all manner of questions from a professional and clarify any interrogations about that career. The Scientist/health professional for a day programme is aimed at every student who wants to experience what it´s like to work in a research laboratory or a clinical environment. The Simulation School (SimSchools) experiences are more intensive and cover not only what the day-to-day life of a biomedical scientist or doctor or nurse feels like, but also teaches students various basic concepts and methods of that career. SimSchools are aimed at students who are interested in a week of immersion in different experiences in research or clinical areas in CBR labs, the Católica Medical School or the simulation center of Hospital da Luz Learning Health.
Soon we will have more info on CBR´s JOB SHADOWING and application conditions/calendar.
